5/7/07 : From July 1st 2007, if you are 65 or older to qualify for a Residential Care Subsidy the value of your assets must be equal to or below the appropriate threshold for your circumstances.

People who do not have a partner or have a partner who is also in long-term residential care are now able to have assets valued at $170,000.00 or less to qualify for the Residential Care Subsidy.

This is an increase of $10,000.00 on the previous year.

From July 1st 2007, people who have a partner who is not in care will have a threshold of : $75,000.00 not including the value of their house and car.

Or can choose a threshold of $170,000.00 which will include the value of their house and car.

Both assets thresholds increase by $10,000.00 on July 1st each year.

The house is only exempt from the financial means assessment when it is the principal place of residence of the partner who is not in care or a dependant child.
